Toddla T: 'Skanky Skanky'

Com apenas 23 anos o britânico Tom Bell, aka. Toddla T, é já um nome de respeito na cena electrónica, capaz de incendiar qualquer estaminé...basta ouvir a sua mixtape de 2007 Ghettoblaster #1, ou as remixes que fez para Esser, Little Boots, Ladyhawke, Hot Chip, Tricky para o perceber, no corpo.

Skanky Skanky marca a primeira aventura, em Lp, do miúdo irreverente e enérgico, que tem como base de inspiração os trabalhos de Cabaret Voltaire, os primeiros lançamentos da Warp Records, e os mirabolantes Basement Jaxx, entre outros.

Um sinónimo do "poder" de Toddla T é o facto de conseguir reunir os seguintes nomes no seu trabalho de estreia: Roots Manuva, Tinchy Stryder, Matt Helders (Arctic Monkey), Joe Goddard (Hot Chip), Herve e Benjamin Zephaniah...e Skream (numa remixe).

Maccabees: 'Wall of Arms'

Já não é novidade que a banda de Liverpool, os Maccabees, regressam em 2009 com o sucessor de Colour It In (2007), o já intitulado Wall of Arms, que conta com a ajuda de Markus Dravs (Coldplay, Bjork, The Arcade Fire), e que tem edição prevista para 4 de Maio via Friction Records.

As novidades são as seguintes:

-Press release:" it’s an evolution for the band – although ‘No Kind Words’ has dark undertones, it fits perfectly with the rest of the record. There is still plenty of melancholy melody and romantic observational humour, qualities which made the band so enduring the first time round. This time though, with the knowledge and craftsmanship they’ve learned along the way, The Maccabees sound even greater. The album artwork is equally special – the band have been painted and photographed by highly regarded artist Boo Ritson.”

Thom Yorke Responds/Radiohead Working

2009 começou com um alvo comum... Thom Yorke:

-Robert Smith não gostou do plano de mercado engendrado por ele... e lançou farpas!

-Kanye West fez birra por ele supostamente o ter evitado... e lançou farpas!

-A pirralha Miley Cyrus foi, diz ela, desprezada por ele... e lançou farpas!

Thom Yorke, envolvido em farpas sem dar conta de tal, responde em formato pacífico:

"wish us all a safe journey if you still like us and you're not one of those people i have managed to offend by doing nothing xx"

A única coisa importante, tendo Thom Yorke e os Radiohead como pano de fundo, é o facto de a banda estar envolvida na criação do sucessor de "In Rainbows"... eis as palavras de Ed O'Brien:

"We are working on new material,"

"We'll be doing some more recording. It's business as usual. We've sort of finished the bulk of [In Rainbows's] touring. We will be doing a little bit of touring in the summer, watch this space!"

Major Lazer (Diplo + Switch) : "Digital Reggae"

Os Major Lazer (excelente nome adoptado) são o demente projecto que junta o agitado Diplo ao inquieto Switch, na arte de regurgitar matéria sonora ("digital reggae and dancehall from Mars in the future") , e que acabadinhos de se formarem, já têm material de apresentação. A estreia em formato longa-duração tem como nome Guns Don't Kill People-- Lazers Do, sai a 16 de Junho via Downtown, e conta com a participação das seguintes madames: M.I.A., Santigold, Vybz Cartel, Ward 21, e Busy Signal.

Segundo a press release podemos esperar isto:

"a renegade commando with a lazer arm and a rocket-powered skateboard who fights the spoils of vampires, zombies, pimps, mummies, and other unsavory forces of evil." Think The Terminator + Back to the Future + Twilight + The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and you're damn close, apparently. Too bad this is an album and not a movie."

My Morning Jacket Live EP

Os My Morning Jacket, e para celebrar o Record Store Day a 18 de Abril, vão lançar um Ep exclusivo com faixas ao vivo intitulado Celebracion de la Ciudad Natal (Celebration of the City of my Birth), que reúne faixas da actuação da banda rock na sua terra natal, Louisville.

O Ep tem como recheio as seguintes faixas: "Evil Urges," "Highly Suspicious", "Librarian", "Gideon," "Dodante" e "Phone Went West."

Q And Not U Member new band: Title Tracks

A banda americana de D.C, Q And Not U (Dischord Records), não teve uma vida longa (1998-2005), mas os três Lp´s que lançaram, num misto refinado de Post-hardcore versus Dance-punk, foram vitais para muitos degustadores de música, e inspiração para diversas bandas.

O término dos Q and Not U não levou à falência musical e criativa dos seus intervenientes, e exemplo disso é o novo projecto do baterista John Davis, os Title Tracks, que reúne também a presença de Michael Cotterman, Andrew Black e Meredith Munoz, numa linha mais indie pop e rock, inspirada por Nick Lowe e os Buzzcocks.

A primeira amostra da banda tem como nome Every Little Bit Hurts, e sai em Abril através da casa mãe, a Dischord Records.

Klaxons new Lp Take2

Recuando cerca de um mês, tinha aqui referido que o novo trabalho dos britânicos Klaxons (aliados a James Ford), estava a ganhar contornos altamente psicadélicos e experimentais, desviando-se do eixo pop que deu origem ao Lp de estreia, o fatal e premiado Myths of the Near Future, lançado em 2007.

Ora quem não gostou muito do desgarrado semblante que estava a tomar o segundo trabalho de originais dos Klaxons, foram os patrões da sua editora (Polydor), que recambiaram os miúdos para o estúdio, durante 4 semanas, com rígidas instruções para refazerem o seu T.P.C, sob ameaça de tau tau.

Resignados responderam: Yes, [we were asked to re-record part of the album] because we've made a really dense, psychedelic record. We've made a really heavy record, and it isn't the right thing for us. I understand and know that. First and foremost, we're a pop band. I haven't thought about that for a long time, and now it's in the forefront of my mind."

Broken Social Scene the Wedding Band

Um pouco abaixo falava do novo Lp a lançar pelos canadianos Appostle of Hustle, que têm na sua fileira um dos elementos do Broken Social Scene... ora os mutantes Broken Social Scene não têm trabalho de orginais previsto para o presente ano, mas têm marcada uma participação, em formato banda de casamento, no filme The Time Traveler’s Wife, baseado no romance de Audrey Niffenegger, realizado por Robert Schwentke e liderado, em termos de actores, por Eric Bana e Rachel McAdams.

Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, e Justin Peroff tocam, em pleno filme, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" dos Joy Division, e podem vir a contribuir com mais faixas, mas ao nível da banda sonora.

Estreia prevista para Fevereiro de 2010.

A banda canadiana Apostle Of Hustle, que assegura a presença de Andrew Whiteman (Broken Social Scene), Julian Brown, Dean Stone, já tem preparado o sucessor de National Anthem of Nowhere, lançado em 2007, que segundo o colectivo é: “raw and explosive, while remaining thought-provoking, dynamic, infectious and unforgettable.” O terceiro Lp da banda tem como título Eats Darkness, e sai a 19 de Maio via Arts & Crafts, que acaba de assinar com dois novos artistas, Years e Still Life Still.

Underground Lisbon vai inaugurar um novo espaço no Parque de Estacionamento do Marquês de Pombal,no dia 20 de Fevereiro de 2009, sendo a sua actividade principal a promoção da cultura urbana e arte contemporânea, e propõe uma reflexão sobre a cultura produzida nas ruas das cidade.
A arte urbana apresentada em Underground Lisbon, mostra trabalhos de artistas que usaram as novas técnologias para se expressar, criaram seus próprios veículos de comunicação, redes de distribuição e valores estéticos, num mercado cada vez mais segmentado.
